Free website check
A short look at the site you have now.
Tell us the council’s current address. We look at the public pages and write back in plain English. It is an initial review. It is not a legal audit, and it is not a certificate that the site meets WCAG 2.2 AA.
What we look at
Accessibility statement
Whether the site publishes a statement, as required by the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018, and whether a resident can find it.
WCAG 2.2 AA issues
Problems we can see against WCAG 2.2 AA, such as missing headings, poor contrast, or pages that do not work with a keyboard. This is not a full test, and it is not a certificate.
HTTPS
Whether the public site is served over HTTPS, and whether the address you sent us loads without a browser warning.
Cookies and a privacy notice
Whether the site explains cookies and asks before non-essential ones are set, and whether there is a privacy notice a resident can read.
A .gov.uk domain
Whether the council is on a .gov.uk address. We are not a registrar. If you want one, that work goes through Krystal Hosting.
Transparency Code publishing
For smaller councils, whether payments, the AGAR, councillor responsibilities, minutes and agendas have an obvious home. The smaller-authorities code applies at or under £25,000 turnover.
Mobile
Whether the main tasks, including finding a meeting paper, are usable on a phone without sideways scrolling or tiny text.
The longer notes are in the guides and on the compliance page. The privacy notice explains what we keep when you send the form.
Send the current address
This is the same enquiry form as a quote. We record the source as website-check, and we ask for the council’s current address.
